Can 'career opportunities' on LinkedIn cost you a job!?

When the whole world is leveraging on Social Media for this and that, an effort by John Flexman (ex-HR Executive, BG Group) on one of the social networking sites landed him in BIG trouble.

You heard it right; the gentleman has been shown the door out for submitting his 'curriculum vitae' in the professional networking site 'LinkedIn'; his interest in "career opportunities" irked the management, and he was forced to take off his CV from the site. Well, when companies like Redwoods Advance and others are on the hunt for 'talented people' he would definitely find his way out.

But hold your horses, as representatives from the company say that a profile with an interest in "career opportunities" is not the ONLY reason (when there are many in the company with LinkedIn profiles), but then it were derogatory comments about the firm in the profile, which made the management think of disciplinary action against him.

People from different corners of the world are commenting on this first-ever case in the UK history of constructive discharge/dismissal; he never knew that online activities just like other job-seekers would cost him too much of an eight-year old job.

And then, the former HR Executive John Flexman is no longer dreaming about £68,000 pounds/annum, as inappropriate use of social networking site (media) against company policies has ADDED one more name in the list of 'unfortunate men' in the world of recession, today.

Well, the man with “too much of details” in his CV has definitely learnt the hard lessons of DIPLOMACY!
